Plagiarism Unit
Here's my plan so far:
-
First, distribute OWL handouts on
- Have students read the plagiarism handout then discuss it do the exercizes as a class. This should help them understand when to give credit to their information sources. This part will include emphasis on the significance of plagiarism both to the federal government (US Consititution, Section 1, Article 8) and in schools (where it is often grounds for dismissal).
-
Then, start describing ways to avoid plagiarism, taken
- from the class handout:
- direct quotes p 24
- punctuation p 25 (bottom)
- reporting verbs and phrases p 26
- and from the paraphrasing handout.
- Discuss the 6 Steps to Effective Paraphrasing section and the examples at the bottom.
Then discuss citations and bibliographies using Pp. 27-28 in the class handout and the library handout.
